  • This class has instruction as well as social dancing, and covers what is informally called “Cuban Salsa”—also called Rueda de Casino.

Join us to laugh, make friends, learn cool moves, and create a dance community. Dress comfortably. Some of us go out for coffee or a bite to eat afterwards, and everyone is welcome!

On the 1st Saturday of the month, we sometimes hold a special workshop at noon for intermediate & advanced dancers. On the 3rd Saturday, we have a second class for intermediate and advanced students after social dancing.

Switch workshops will be given at noon August 15 & 29 for those who can lead and follow common moves.

Recent Books

Dance Guidebook

Danceintime’s director, Barb Bernstein, published the Salsa Dancing & Rueda de Casino Guidebook for Beginner to Advanced Dancers: Steps, Styling, Technique, Latin Rhythms, Humor & Anecdotes. It’s a “genre blender”—part textbook, part memoir, and part coffee table book that’s fun to browse! Available in Kindle, paperback, & hardback.

From an Amazon review: “Drawing on decades of teaching experience, Barbara has distilled her knowledge into a clear, engaging read that’s perfect for beginners and seasoned dancers alike. The book covers everything from basic steps to the cultural roots of salsa, with links to videos for easy practice. Her warmth and expertise shine through, making it both fun and inspiring to read. If you’ve ever wanted to learn salsa or deepen your connection to Cuban dance, this book is a must-have!”

Newsflash: The Salsa Dancing & Rueda de Casino Guidebook was featured in the June 15, 2026 issue of Kirkus Reviews magazine! The upcoming National Museum of the American Latino selected this book to be in their GM Learning Lounge, currently in the National Museum of American History.

Children’s Books

In addition, Barb also recently published some funny and wildly imaginative children’s books for ages 5 to 13. Her new book, Clara’s Strange Adventures, which includes a visit to “Rhythm and Dance Land,” was chosen to be featured in the July 15, 2026 Kirkus Reviews Magazine! Barb’s first children’s book, Lunar Cars and Magic Words, also got an excellent Kirkus review. For more details: wiseoldowlbooks.com.

Special Events

Arts Celebration for Justice

On October 4, join Danceintime dancers in a “Theater & Justice” program sponsored by Sherrita Wilkins’ Journey Bound Collaborative. There will be poetry reading, dancing, and a staged reading of Act One of Sherrita’s play about the wrongful imprisonment of her brother Andy. She’s also auditioning folks to act in her play.

The event is free, but registration is required—and donations appreciated. Register here or audition here.

College Park Salsa Class (for all levels)

Join a Salsa Class sponsored by the College Park Arts Exchange and taught by Barb Bernstein on Friday, September 25, 7:30 to 9 pm. Class will be at the Old Parish House (4711 Knox Rd, College Park, MD). To register, contact the College Park Arts Exchange Director, Melissa Sites: info@cpae.org. Class will cover all levels: beginners through advanced.

NEW! Ellsworth Place Latin Dance Night!

Ellsworth Place hosts a Latin dance that is free to the public on the first Friday of each month, 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Note that the doors to the venue are locked at 9 pm so you can’t get in after that time. But the exit doors work till 10 pm.

Opportunity Knocks: Calling All Artists!

The Ellsworth Place venue is looking for art to put on their walls. Yecenia, who works there, has put out a call for local artists to submit framed pieces of their work for consideration. She said it’s fine to include a QR code to a website or other online source of information about the artist. If interested, submit directly to Yecenia or to Barb Bernstein, who will pass materials along to her.

Parting Thought — for Students Studying Anything!

These words are a great lesson for all students to keep in mind:

“I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career.
I’ve lost almost 300 games.
Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed.
I’ve failed over and over again in my life.
And
that is why I succeed.”

—Michael Jordan
