Dear Barbara,
Thank you for always going out of your way to make everyone in your classes feel welcome and wanted. I have greatly appreciated the support you and others have shown my friends when they come with me, and I have seen you consistently doing the same for every other new face in the crowd. In case you weren't sure, it is noticed and appreciated!
Until later,
Tiara

Barb,
I wanted to tell you that my friend loved your class. He said that you had a great rapport with your students and he liked that. I have to agree. You also broke things down nicely. I just wanted to let you know. Too often we don't hear the nice things people say about us.
Have a great one,
Patti

Hi Barb:
You are so sweet! I really enjoy your class and I like you very much and all the students in it. You have a nice teaching style that helps everyone relax and feel good about participating. That's exactly what a good instructor is all about! Barb, I think you're doing a great job with both the teaching and the performances. And besides, I enjoy dancing with you, so I know we'll always be in touch!:-).
See you soon.
Mark

Barb,
I just want to say that you do an amazing job on your website - I have learnt so much more just reading the stuff you have on it and your videos are great as well - crystal clear instructions and demonstration that really help both as starters and as reminders for me. And you cover so much on your site - have a question about salsa styles? you have it!
another question on the salsa "tap or not to tap"? you have that covered too! ...
Take care,
Za

Barb,
Thanks for helping me earlier today. As I have told you time and time again, you are a light in the salsa community. Your welcoming nature is wonderful; I love you for this and think you are a very talented dancer and a wonderful person. I am lucky to call you my friend.

Hi Barbara,
Just wanted to let you know that I just finished plugging your Salsa class. I hope a lot of fish bite! Here is what I said:
"Last night I had a fun and productive salsa/dance lesson with Barbara Bernstein. She had a good blend of showing moves and analyzing and giving feedback on your personal body movements (she's also a mathematician!)…..If you are a dancing nublet, dancing master, or want to learn salsa, or think you're a terrible dancer, or have ever had headaches, or like kittens or puppies... you should take the opportunity to take the class with her!"
Ning.

Barb,
My head was spinning (after class)! You are obviously an extraordinary instructor!!!
I look forward to coming again-I can't make each Saturday, but would like to attempt to rearrange my schedule some. AND I will definitely give you a call when I figure out some great potential program dates.
Thanks again. It was terrific to meet you. Everyone was so wonderful.

Hi Barb,
I wanted to thank you again for such a wonderful class on Saturday. My first time dancing rueda was so much fun because of your great teaching. I don't know if I had mentioned but I also dance bachata, cha cha, merengue and also some ballroom, but now rueda is one of my new loves! Thank you!
Monique

Dear Barbara,
Thank you so much. The class was a welcome treat and your expertise on the floor was utterly refreshing. Know that your patient manner won over the most mature participant on the floor! Your methods and techniques are greatly appreciated and I thank you again for sending the instructional videos. I intend to use them!
Hope to see you soon!

Dear Barb,
I just wanted to write to tell you how much I enjoyed your website and how helpful I found your instructional videos. I dance Casino and Rueda on the London club scene.. I went looking for Rueda clips on the internet and thought that yours were brilliant! They really are some of the best instructional stuff I've seen (in any style) - so please, please, do a DVD as I can't travel all the way to DC to attend your classes every week!! I know plenty of people on the London Rueda scene who would buy it. loads of the London teachers do DVDs now but no rueda as of yet.
Sincerely,
Sonia

OMG, Barbara,
You are just too much, incredible!! Your personal touch, your professionalism and character have me just awestruck.
How refreshing it is to encounter an instructor such as yourself with so big a heart and passion and so much genuine care and concern for each student, individually. It has been my greatest pleasure taking Rueda lessons with you and yours, absorbing what I may of the material, having the time of my life. I do hope someday to grasp enough to implement it well, whether for fun on the dance floor or for even greater fun in a performance. I am encouraged as well by your provision of the videos demonstrating the rueda move that so captivated me when I saw it performed on the Health Fair video. You are first class, 5-star, without question.
You are absolutely amazing and you remain in my warmest thoughts and my best/highest regard.
Demetrius

Hi Barb.
I really enjoyed the class today. You have a wonderful way of making people feel welcome and comfortable and breaking down all the moves for the ladies and gents. You have a great group of nice folks there too. I look forward to more classes with all of you!

You are fabulous and very detailed and patient, with your passion for dancing. Yesterday's program made memories for our seniors. One of our senior male Hispanic participants stated he had not danced like that since he was a kid; another female participant said with the young people present, it brought back her days when she was teaching. Thank you a million times for the fun and lessons.

Hello Ms. Berstein,
Thanks for coming out to teach us dance yesterday! We enjoyed having you and your assistant come to teach us and demonstrate to us the different Latin dances. It was an energized multi-generational event. You are phenomenal, your passion for teaching and dancing could be felt by all of us. Also, thanks for leaving us the video and handouts that we can use to practice.
Best, Velda

Hey Barbra :)
I would've enjoyed being able to attend the classes and wish my schedule didn't prevent me from doing so. However, I was happy to hear my friends enjoyed the class! I didn't know if they were going to take my recommendation to do so at first, but on Thursday they were sending me many thanks and voiced their enthusiasm to also attend the D.C. class.
You're a phenomenal person and an amazing instructor! You make it fun and never have any trouble teaching which is so amazing with the many different levels you're always accommodating to! You're world class Barbara!
Respectfully,
Ryan

Hi Barbara,
I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything! I
feel like you really opened up the doors to the "salsa world" for me, and I
will never lose that. Also, I really appreciated developing a friendship
with you these past few months. Your studio has become like a family for me.
I have made so many amazing friends, and have learned so much. Thanks again
for coming to my going away party.

Dear Barb,
I have to say I've been in multiple classes around town and been in classes with most of the teachers in the area and you are definitely the absolute best.
I usually get really bored in classes and have stopped taking too many because I'd rather just dance and practice that way. It seems when I take a class they always teach some kind of routine and I really want to know how to apply it in the setting that I would be in most of the time out dancing. I feel like the classes I've taken have lacked that application. I've learned way more just dancing and watching people when I'm out. You, on the other hand, have been great & I just wanted to let you know that! Can't wait until next week!
Thanks,
Name Withheld

Barb,
I constantly refer to your page, and suggest it to my class. In fact, it was being able to reference it that got me started teaching rueda down here (in Mexico)! I think it's remarkably generous of you to have all that info on the web. I much prefer your videos to the ones I hunt out on youtube.

Hi Barbara!
Just wanted to let you know that I have viewed the entire (instructional video) tape I bought from you and it is well worth the money and then some. The tape is very well done and very explanatory. Thank yous to your cast members. They are so very well accomplished. Last but not least my compliments definitely go out to you for being so knowledgeable, so explanatory, so demonstrative with Rueda. Not just on the tape but also in class.

Hi Barbara,
Thank you for your e-mail. You have a very warm, relaxed and comfortable way about you that made last night's group lesson truly fun. Did you notice that the number of people on the dance floor GREW steadily during the course of the hour? Your helpers are to be commended, too, for dancing with all of the participants who didn't have partners.
Jenny and I were thrilled with everything that you did. We got a lot of questions about you from our friends later in the evening. Jenny and I will be delighted to be under your tutelage again one day in the not-so-distant future. Thank you, again, for a delightful time!
Warmly,
Ziv

Barbara Bernstein produced a Latin dance show for our Institute last fall which was very well received and showed spirit, flare, and skill. The dancers demonstrated all the major Latin dances.
After the performances, some dance steps were taught to the audience, followed by general dancing. The performers warmly mingled and danced with everyone in the audience. We had Telemundo on hand to cover the event and do an interview with Ms. Bernstein and myself. It was a wonderful evening.
In terms of background and ethnicity, the dancers were a varied group. I must say it is remarkable to see that our Latin dances are performed at such a sophisticated level by people who are not themselves Latino! This is a wonderful thing to see and we plan to have her perform here again.
Thank you very much.

My very dear Barb,
I was thinking about you and how grateful I am to you. I am not sure if you truly realize what you do for others. And, perhaps, that is better. There is no self-consciousness involved that way. But I needed to tell you how much your work and your love of it have helped and continue to help me, now, more than ever. For me, the music fills my soul. Although, I confess, not all of it does. And moving to it is almost transcendent.
Many thanks, Barb, for your kind and loving words. A big hug with lots of love,
G. A.
Dear Barbara,
I can't thank you enough for teaching Salsa at our [DanceUSA National] Conference! You and Tamara represented the DC Dance Scene with such grace and talent. And as I've said before, I am enormously appreciative of your flexibility and adaptability! I'm thrilled to have met you.

Hi Barb,
I am writing to let you know that I will be moving out of the DC area very soon!! I will miss the reopening of classes in June.
I would like to thank you again for keeping connected during the pandemic. I admire your ability to create new projects, and I'm glad that not even a pandemic stopped your creative energy.
Thank you also for bringing together such a diverse and welcoming group of people; all because of our shared love of dancing. I can definitely trace the great environment of the rueda classes back to you. I wish you success in conducting classes in this post-pandemic world.
It is difficult to say if I will be back in DC in the near future, but if I do, I will certainly visit.
Thanks again!

Dear Barbara,
I can't wait to hold a copy (of your book) in my hand. The website for the book is great!!!
My journey in dance has taught me so much and you stand out to me as a teacher who always showed interest in me- first, as a person and second, as a dancer. It is only now, after many teachers, I can appreciate how special that was.
I will always treasure my time learning from you and the community you created.
With love and gratitude,

Dear Ms. Bernstein,

Hi Barb,
Just want to thank you once again for everything; helping and spending time w/me in practicing and polishing some salsa moves. There are few instructors that are humble and go out of their way in helping others to progress. Definitely I won't forget where I came from or how I got started, nor will I ever. Even though I can't see or spend time w/everyone as much as I used to-everyone is still apart of me in my heart.

Hi Barb---
Just thought I'd let you know that you have shattered a dearly held belief that, as a Cuban, made me feel a certain uniqueness: that only Cubans and, perhaps Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, could dance Salsa. Have I led a sheltered life or what?! But I forgive you. I sort of enjoy having my preconceptions shattered. Life is full of wonderful and unexpected discoveries.
From my first "Rueda de Casino" class with you, I knew not only that you were an excellent teacher but also a dancer who felt the music as deeply as I did, and who danced to it with the true gusto of a Cuban. I would say that you must have been Cuban in a former lifetime. Your love of the music and culture seems to me to come from some long ago memory being culled from timelessness, like a dream so vivid you'd swear you are living in a parallel universe.
Thank you for shattering this preconception, for helping propagate a very positive and joyful aspect of our culture---and for your warmth, encouragement, and all-around "givingness" to all of us. And on a more personal note, thank you for making it possible for me to relive the incredible joy of doing what makes my heart and soul sing.
Carinos mil,

Thanks for the wonderful website. Hopefully we will all see each other in Miami and have a huge circle to play with.

Nobody could have presented this show better.

Hi Barb,
I am writing on behalf of a friend. He is interested in private salsa instruction. You are the best teacher around so naturally my first recommendation was you. Do you teach privately?
Thanks.

Dear Ms. Bernstein,
Thanks you for the wonderful Dance in Time Sundays on Stage program on October 17, 2004. The audience loved the performance, and especially enjoyed participating in the program. Even with the large number of dancers, the performance was well organized and ran smoothly.
We look forward to working with you again in the future. Than you very much for the great program.
Sincerely,
Hedra

Here are comments from viewers of this video (https://youtu.be/782ltZC-K-c) which was produced during the pandemic. It's a parody on "Dancing In the Street."
Wow, Barb! You’ve really been making the most of the pandemic, haven’t you? These videos are so much fun to watch — clever songs, charming dance steps, great props, and professional-level editing. I’m impressed!

Barbara.. wow! So talented you are. Everyone looks like they had a blast. Kudos to the video editing as well.

That was really good - some fine dancers there and clever lyrics and good harmonies. Must have taken quite a bit of work to put that together.
Take care,
S.

Hello Barbara,
I will really miss your class because I was learning so much because of your teaching skills, your expertise in Salsa and above all, your marvelous level of patience. I can definitely understand your reason for suspending the class because of your concern for the safety of all. Although, I am very disappointed that this dreaded virus is still among us and it is definitely altering our way of living in so many ways, I still have faith that we will conquer it.
Barbara, I would like to thank you once again for everything that you have done for me in making me a better student of Salsa. I enjoy the dance very much and initially, I had no expectation that I would be at the level that I have acquired in such a short period of time because of you.

Hi Barb.
…Your classes are one of the biggest highlights of my time in DC. I really liked the community since we have many very open-minded people who respect other people's cultures and backgrounds. I think that we need more people like you and your students in the US to make our communities better. Thank you very much for your initiatives.

….Seeing the ladies (who were your students) with you the other night was like seeing a mother with her dance daughters. …That’s definitely true for myself (and so many others). You foster such a safe space to learn, have fun and be challenged, which blooms into a loving community of friends. As students come and go, we do so with a smile and with full hearts. I'm forever grateful I found your class on meetup dot com. Definitely life changing.

I really enjoyed this class and looked forward to going to campus on Wednesdays! The time spent together and constant rotation also allowed me to create 15 new friendships!

My dear friend Barbara Bernstein’s book...comes with a directory of several (tons!!) of videos….. Everyone who has had the privilege to learn from her, you know she has moves for days. But this book is more than a book of moves. It delves into the history, philosophy, her personal stories from her 20+ years of teaching, along with so many other subjects. I started to nickname it a “Ruedapedia,” but it's so much more than that!
Barb is a community leader, and this is truly a community book. A book that gives back. You'll receive the knowledge she has acquired and shared over the years, but you'll also experience the love she has for this community.
Barb, thank you for everything you have done for this community. Get all your flowers, you deserve it!
