Women's History Programs

DanceInTime’s Women Take the Lead program explores women’s progress toward equality and how those changes have been reflected in music and dance. Ideal for Women’s History Month, Women’s Equality Day (August 26), and related events, the program is available both in person and online.

Through commentary, performances, and optional audience participation, participants learn how changing social roles have influenced the arts over time. Women both lead and follow in the dance demonstrations, and any audience member can learn the leader’s role during instructional segments.

Educational, empowering, and interactive, this program is both thought-provoking and fun.

Women Take the Lead

54-minute video rental or 1–1.5 hour live program. This empowering and entertaining program explores the changing role of women throughout history and how those changes are reflected in the arts.

Audience members enjoy performances in which dancers switch between leading and following roles, and are invited to guess when the lead changes. The program includes discussion, demonstrations, and a dance lesson in which women are welcome to learn the leader’s role. Participants leave with a deeper appreciation of women’s progress toward equality—and a few new dance skills as well.
