Biography for Barbara Bernstein

Barbara Bernstein's blend of academic credentials and dance expertise makes her uniquely suited to directing a program on team building through dance. She received her Ph.D. in Human Development from the University of Maryland's College of Education. Formerly a college teacher, Bernstein now teaches Salsa dancing full time.

Barbara's dance background includes training in foreign folk dance, ballroom dances (Latin and smooth) as well as Salsa. She directs DanceInTime (URL: DanceInTime.com) which promotes Casino Rueda through classes and performances. In addition to her regular classes at dance studios in the Washington D.C/Baltimore. area, Bernstein has taught at clubs, schools, athletic facilities, work-places, etc. She teaches credit clases at University of Maryland, American University, George Mason University, and George Washington University.

Dance programs have been run at a variety of work-places including various divisions of the Army, Walter Reed Medical Center, the Maryland Health Department, the Census Bureau, General Accounting Office, as well as private firms and schools from elementary to college level.

In addition, Bernstein has arranged Latin dance shows for venues as varied as The Kennedy Center, the Verizon Center, and countless festivals and stages, large and small..

She also produced a CD titled "Rhythm Reminder" (see below) to help students with their timing. This CD is a great tool for teaching and learning. Bernstein writes articles on dance topics for websites and electronic publications such as Salsaweb.com, SalsaFreak.com, and Candela magazine as well as for printed magazines such as Sabor.

Her Dance Company's "Women's Team" performed and Bernstein taught a workshop at the Miami Salsa Congress, which draws dancers from all over the world! They are performing there again in 2010. A DanceInTimeTeam also performed in August 2008 and September 2009 at the New York Salsa Congress, in July 2008 in Puerto Rico, in June/July 2008 and 2009 at the Philadelphia Salsa Congress, and in the 2006, 2007, and 2009 DC Salsa Congresses. DIT also performed at the NY and DC Salsa Congresses again in 2010. In addition, Bernstein taught several Salsa workshops in Dublin, Ireland March 19th, 2011 at the St. Patrick Salsa Festival.
